Familiar Faces: Greg Kimler - Echo Valley Ranch, Inc.

Q. How long have you been the owner of Echo Valley Ranch, Inc.?
A. I took it over from my dad in 1998. He was the owner in Auburn since 1980.

Q. Where did you grow up?
A. I grew up in Grass Valley. Now I live in Baker Ranch, in Foresthill. It's gorgeous there.

Q. What are some of your hobbies?
A. I enjoy rididn my horses and training my horses. I'm really involoved in Tevis Cup. I'm all encompassing in Tevis. We've had horses since I was young and throught the store I got more involved in the nutrition of horses. Now I work a lot with endurance riders all over the West Coast.

Q. What is something unique about you?
A. I love to garden and spending time working on my vegetable garden after work is a good stress relief. I'm also a wannabe gourmet chef. I love to cook.

Q. What is your favorite TV show or movie?
A. I love the History Channel and I'm kind of a news junkie. My favorite movie of all time is "Monty Python and the Holy Grail."

Q. What kind of music do you listen to?
A. I like '70s and '80s rock 'n' roll and some of the newer country western music. You can't go wrong with Boston, Journey or Foreigner - and ACDC of course.

Q. What kind of books do you like to read?
A. I read everything. One of my favorites right now is "Secretariat: The Making of a Champion". It's a pheonmenal story. And of course the book, "The Little Rescue Pinto That Could" that my wife, Tammy Kimler, wrote.

Q. What are some of your greatest acheivements?
A. Probably raising my two boys the right way. Tyler is 24 and Ryan is 21. Another acheivement is building my business to a point that we can give back and contribute to the community.

Q. What are some of your future goals?
A. To spend less time at work and more time with my horses. I have seven, but soon to be in double figures. One of my other goals is to run the Western States 100 instead of ride it.

Q. What's the best part about working at Echo Valley Ranch, Inc.?
A. Having the employees in place gives me the opportunity to do what I want at work, whether it's talking to customers of going out on deliveries. I can bring my horse to work and go out for an afternoon ride. It's a great place to be.
